All Day for Kindergarten thru Fourth Grades

Chair: Heather Mullen
Co-Chair: Kathleen Curry-Sparks
Volunteer Coordinator: Sarah Crawford
Volunteer Coordinator: Kristine Eremita

Arts Day is one of the most exciting and dynamic days of the school year, when kids spend the entire day having fun, getting messy, and learning about art from an incredible group of volunteer visiting artists.  This is a day that runs on a tremendous amount of good will and volunteer energy, and we'd love your help! Please contact Heather Mullen at mhemullen@yahoo.com or Kathleen Curry-Sparks at kcurrysparks@hotmail.com if you are interested in any of the following:

Visiting artist:  Share a hands-on art project with 3 classes of kids.  We encourage any artistic medium you would like to bring, including fine arts, crafts of all shapes and sizes, movement, martial arts, theater etc.  Amateur and professional artists alike most welcome!

Parent helper: Pair up with one of our amazing visiting artists for the morning to help with all aspects of the workshop they are teaching. Come dressed to get a little bit messy!

Artist gift bag donations: It is a Arts Day tradition to thank our visiting artists (many of whom do not have children in our school and donate their time) with a small inexpensive goody bag.  Past years have included items like water and a snack, a small potted plant, hand cream, and other niceties. If you have items to donate, we'd love to talk to you.

Student performers: If your child plays an instrument or has a performing skill they would like share with the school, we cordially invite them to join our group of student performers gracing the hallways of Pond Cove as kids arrive off the bus in the morning. Past years have included violinists, keyboardists, cellists, and jugglers.  All ages and skill levels most welcome!

Pond Cove's Annual Arts Day held on April 7th, 2011 was fabulous. Beginning with the talented student musicians and performers greeting students at the entrance, to the buzz of excitement inside the school, it is clear that the Pond Cove Community pulled together for another amazing event. Over 100 parent volunteers helped 28 artists conduct 87 workshops. In the afternoon Troy Wunderle's Big Top Adventures performed an interactive circus show for the entire school.

Thanks so much to all of the artists and parent volunteers. We could not have done it without you. Enormous thanks to the fabulous, tireless Arts Day Committee: Co-Chairs Heather Mullen and Kathleen Curry-Sparks, Volunteer Coordinators Sarah Crawford and Kristine Eremita, and Artist Coordinator Lindsay Tucker.
