Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Thank you for making our 2011 Scholastic Book Fair an Out of This World success. We thank you for visiting “Planet Story” this year, sifting through the selection of Out of This World Books, and finding the ones that sparked your imagination!

This year the Book Fair reached over $15,000 in sales thanks to all of our volunteers and shoppers! The PCPA will receive $4000 in cash and $360 in Scholastic Reward dollars, which we use to purchase items from Scholastic, Inc. to benefit our Pond Cove School.  An extra big thank you goes out to all those volunteers who took the time from their busy schedule to keep our Book Fair staffed for six days and almost 50hours.

Scholastic’s One for Books Program, which at Pond Cove we call BUCKS for BOOKS, was once again a huge success. Thanks to all the students, teachers and families who donated $1,070 worth of loose change. Scholastic will match this donation with 1,070 books to Scholastic’s charities of choice and another $1070 worth of books will be donated to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and Gimnasio Los Cerezos school in Manizales, Colombia where 4th grade teacher, Ingrid Stressenger’s daughter is teaching this year.  This year we ran a contest to see which grade could bring in the most change and the 4th grade won!  $180 of that $1,070 was given to the 4th grade teachers ($30 to each) to spend at the book fair.

The PCPA Scholastic Book Fair Committee for 2011 was co-chaired by Mary Ellen Carignan, Sarah Bischoff and Heather Altenburg, along with our expert volunteer coordinator Erin Salvador. The committee sends its sincere appreciation to all the shoppers and volunteers who made our 2011 Fair a Gallactic Success!

Many books were donated to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital as a part of the Book Fair

This photo was sent to us by the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital. On display are some of the many books that were donated to the hospital's library all thanks to the over $1,000 in loose change that was collected during the Bucks for Books program that ran during the Scholastic Book Fair in October. What a wonderful gift from the students of Pond Cove!
