Arts Day
NEW DATE! Wednesday, April 14th, All Day for Kindergarten thru Fourth Grades
Chair: Heather Mullen
Co-Chair: Kathleen Curry-Sparks
Volunteer Coordinator: Anna Strout
Volunteer Coordinator: Josephine Yim
To quote Princial Eismeier regarding the May 13th, 2009, Arts Day, "Arts Day! I've run out of superlatives to describe this annual event, which energized the entire school..."
The day begins with talented student and adult musicians and performers greeting people at the entrance. After a buffet breakfast is provided for the presenters, everyone throws themselves into three hours of intensive, focused, hands-on art. Sessions in recent years have included pottery, stained glass, architecture, watercolor, dance, yoga, weaving, music, painting, sculpture, improv, jewelry, karate, tisssue-paper art, fabric design, metal sculpture, graphic design, and illusion.
In the afternoon there is a performance for the entire school in the Cafetorium. Last year was a magical performance by Jason Purdy, an illusionist-magician who thrills audiences of all ages with his slights of hand.
Nearly 200 volunteers — students, parents, musicians, jugglers, photographers — were involved in helping last year's Arts Day run smoothly. It is truly a community event.
